In the industrial electronics and electronic components market, Indonesia’s consumer electronics segment is growing very rapidly, with the majority of the market are from households of around 64 million. In the 2008 Presidential Regulation on National Industrial Policy, the Government of Indonesia made electronic devices one of six manufacturing priorities in the fast-growing industrial sector.

The electronics industry sector, including the industrial group of metal goods, machinery, transportation equipment and electronics (ilmate), makes a major contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the non-oil and gas industry. This indicator can be seen from the growth of the ilmate sector which during the second quarter of 2022 recorded a contribution of 6.65 percent to GDP. This means that the sector’s growth is above the national economic growth. The electronics industry is one of the leading sectors, so the government included this sector in the Making Indonesia 4.0 program.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) show that the gross domestic product (GDP) at constant prices (ADHK) for the metal goods, computers, electronics, optics and electrical equipment industries amounted to IDR 49.87 trillion in the first quarter of 2022. And not only that, the export value of electronics contributed to exports of USD 4.17 billion in the January-June 2022 period. Meanwhile, the metal, machinery, transportation equipment and electronics (ILMATE) industry in the first quarter of 2022 experienced positive growth of 9.86 % (y-on-y). This brilliant performance shows the trend of Indonesia’s economic recovery which continues to strengthen.

Referring to data from the Central Statistics Agency processed by the Ministry of Industry, in the first quarter of 2022, the ILMATE sector contributed 4.19% to the national GDP and 24.19% to the GDP of the non-oil and gas industry.
